Amphipods

Commonly called sand fleas or beach hoppers, amphipods are in the Arthropod phylum along with crabs, isopods, and barnacles. Resembling small shrimp, this group of species can be found in fresh and salt water across the world. In Cannon beach, these small creatures are usually seen jumping around the wrack line, especially if there is kelp or other debris washed ashore.
